Attack at the residence of Minister
Dear Fellow American Citizens in Lesotho:
Late in the evening of Friday, November 24 in the Hillsview area, Maseru, unidentified gunmen at the entrance of the residence of a government minister attacked a vehicle carrying foreign national workers of an American non-governmental organization. Regrettably, a Dutch national aid worker died from injuries sustained during the attack. There is no evidence that the NGO or the foreign workers were targeted, although the attack is under investigation and the motives of the gunmen are at present unknown.
The Embassy reminds all U.S. citizens of the high level of crime in Maseru and to take all appropriate measures to ensure your safety. Such measures may include remaining vigilant about your surroundings and avoiding potentially dangerous locations.
