United States Donates Five Million U.S. Dollars of Food Aid to Lesotho
In response to the food security crisis in Lesotho created by widespread drought and maize crop failure, the U.S. Embassy in Maseru is pleased to announce the donation of 6,500 metric tons of food aid commodities, valued at US $5 million, to the World Food Program in Lesotho. This U.S. Government donation, made though the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), will be used to support the efforts of the Government of Lesotho to meet the critical food needs of rural households affected by this year’s devastating drought and crop failure. The U.S. Government will continue to work with the Government of Lesotho to safeguard the Basotho people against the effects of the drought and other threats to food insecurity.
