U.S. Embassy to donate School Equipment in Mohale'shoek
On Friday June 8 2007, U.S. Chargé d'Affaires Mr. Patrick Murphy will be handing over school equipment worth over $8000 to the Ministry of Education and Training under Dr. Mamphono Khaketla. The equipment, which the Minister will receive on behalf of Itumeleng Community Primary and Bataung Secondary School, has been donated by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) Humanitarian Assistance Program through the U.S. European Command (USEUCOM). This equipment includes School books, bookcases, filing cabinets, desks, chairs and stationery.
Humanitarian Assistance Programs (HPA) a long-term program in which the U.S. military supports humanitarian projects. HAP brings together key members of the U.S. and foreign militaries, U.S. Embassy Country Team, host nation government agencies and local civilian organizations to plan and coordinate a multitude of interrelated humanitarian projects. The entities work closely to evaluate and select those projects that provide a positive social and economic impact to needy communities. Such projects may include rudimentary construction and repair of public facilities, well drilling and construction of basic sanitation facilities, and medical, dental and veterinary assistance.
