What Is A Visa?
A visa is issued by a U.S Embassy or Consulate and entitles the holder to travel to the United States and apply for admission. A visa does not guarantee entry. An officer of the Citizenship and Immigration Service at the port of entry determines the visa holder’s eligibility for admission into the United States.
A citizen of a foreign country who wishes to enter the United States must first obtain a visa for a temporary stay or an immigrant visa for permanent residence. If you hold a machine-readable passport from a visa waiver country, you do not require a non-immigrant visa.
