U.S. Ambassador to donate clothes, books to Baylor – BMS Children’s Clinic
On Monday, April 30, 2007, the U.S. Ambassador to Lesotho Mrs. June Carter Perry will be visiting the Baylor – BMS Children’s Clinical Center of Excellence – Lesotho. She will be making the visit in order to donate clothing and books to the patients and families of the Clinic. Ambassador Perry has collaborated with Dr. Edith Qentso Mohapi, Executive Director of the Baylor Clinic, to make this event possible.
The clothing and books have been donated by the Delta Sigma Theta Public Service Sorority / Federal City Alumni Chapter, and former and current employees of the U.S. Embassy. Delta Sigma Theta (DST) is one of the oldest African-American civic and social organizations in the United States. DST is known world-wide for its education of women and girls as well as its focus on wellness, community development and literacy programs.
The Washington, D.C.-based organization is especially pleased to make this donation to support the work of the Baylor Centre of Excellence in Lesotho whose goals for human development parallel those of Delta Sigma Theta.
The Baylor College of Medicine – Bristol Myers-Squibb Children’s Clinical Centre of Excellence in Maseru is a pediatric HIV/AIDS care and treatment facility, opened in December 2005. It is Lesotho’s only free pediatric HIV/AIDS care, treatment and support outpatient clinic, serving hundreds of children and families living with HIV/AIDS.
